Weisses Kreuz, Burgusio/Malles

Adults are among themselves here: Besides its special flair with Renaissance and Gothic rooms, the design hotel features a very unique selling point with its adults-only policy. Geographically, it stands out for its proximity to Lake Resia (with its church tower in the water), Lake San Valentino alla Muta and Stelvio Pass.

Hotel Lagacio, San Cassiano

At an altitude of 1,500 meters, in the middle of the Dolomites, lies the luxurious mountain hotel, whose standards are undoubtedly just as high. The spacious suites are simply dreamy. With the gourmet breakfast, it can be quite tempting to postpone your hike just that little bit longer. Impressive views can be found in the Puez-Odle Nature Park.

Das Wanda, Caldaro

Enjoy a stylish vacation at someone else’s home. The "Das Wanda" boutique hotel and bed and breakfast is run by a family in which the love of hospitality, sophisticated design and nature is obviously passed on reliably. Many wine cellars and wineries, such as the popular Ritterhof, are situated nearby. Cheers!

Cyprianerhof, Tires

Five stars, surrounded by spectacular rock formations and a gondola on the doorstep. Plus deluxe wellness and international cuisine in total seclusion. Not only on its own terrain, but also in the nearby Astra fine dining restaurant. The Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park and Santnerpass hut call for you to work off the food.

Restaurants in South Tyrol

South Tyrol is known for its wines, which can be enjoyed at a tasting session or, depending on their quality, with a very good meal. In our opinion, these top South Tyrolean restaurants have more than earned their toques and stars. Test the Japanese influence on Tyrolean cuisine, dine in a mediaeval setting or stop off at a globetrotter’s.

Flurin, Glorenza

The Flurin Michelin restaurant in Val Venosta has cooked its way into the hearts of its fans with modern cuisine made from seasonal and regional ingredients. The often organic wine on offer is also not to be scoffed at. As a casual fine dining restaurant, it offers a relaxed atmosphere. All in a 14th-century tower.

La Stüa de Michil, Corvara in Badia

If you are hungry for corals or offal, or if you want to be reminded of vegetables that were once considered forgotten, La Stüa de Michil is the place for you. Chef Simone Cantafio has already made his mark in Japan in a restaurant that has been awarded two Michelin stars. So we can assume he knows what he’s doing.

Restaurant Astra, Collepietra

Chef Gregor Eschgfäller was a gourmet globetrotter before bringing the best insights from the world’s top kitchens to South Tyrol. His first-class gastronomy is rewarded with three GaultMillau toques. His signature dishes will also have you in awe: The fine meals are served on real ceramic arts of work.

Wineries in South Tyrol

Taste the best wines along South Tyrol’s picturesque Wine Route and stay at one of our favorite hotels. South Tyrol is one of the most important growing areas for numerous classics and is home to the Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. Wineries and wine cellars represent the whole diversity of the South Tyrolean wine world.

Cantina Tramin, Termeno

At Cantina Tramin you can taste all wines without prior notice. Cantina is an ambitious project, after all, it’s a merger of around 160 winemaking families. You can find out more about their story during a bookable tour of the winery. Please note: These are in fact so popular that they are not carried out for groups.

St. Michael-Eppan, Appiano

The wines are as fine as the St. Michael-Eppan winery building, which was built in Art Nouveau style. Of course, things get even more interesting one floor lower. In the barrique cellar, a rich selection of prestigious wines matures in French oak barrels. Don’t forget to take some of them home with you.

Kellerei Kaltern, Caldaro

A well-rounded winery: Kellereigenossenschaft Kaltern was founded in 1900. Today it has 650 members, who together cultivate 450 hectares of vineyards. As a cooperative, they produce the whole range of wines: Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Müller Thurgau and many more.

Attractions in South Tyrol

The Dolomites, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are the main attraction in South Tyrol with their dramatic rock formations and super summits, lakes and nature parks. All this beauty can be explored on a variety of hiking trails. Every stop at a hut offers other highlights, such as the legendary "Kaiserschmarrn".

Lake Resia and Lake San Valentino alla Muta

Big and little brother, one more beautiful than the other. However, the larger of the two, Lake Resia, or rather the steeple protruding from it, is an international star. The story behind it: In 1950, the villages of Curon and Resia sank into the reservoir, it is the only thing still visible. There is a hiking trail around both lakes.

americanexpress-magazin-suedtirol-sehenswertes-naturpark-schlern-stagestatic

Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park

The first of its kind: Sciliar-Catinaccio was founded in 1974 and is the oldest nature park in South Tyrol. Together with the Alpe di Siusi nature reserve, it offers shelter for almost 800 flowering plants and ferns. Other highlights: the Sciliar mountain and Catinaccio massif. A spectacular sight, particularly at sunset.

Santnerpass hut

Anyone who makes their way to the Santnerpass hut today will find a newly restored gem. The architecture and view overshine each other. The latter with a view over the peaks of the Corno Nero and Corno Bianco and the Austrian and Swiss Alps. Saying all that, we reckon that the "Kaiserschmarrn" alone is worth the climb.
