What motivated you to start your own business?

Jessica Häupl: Isabel and I share a passion for medical cosmetics. We both wanted to focus on this area, using devices and products that convince us 100 percent and with which we can really make a difference. So we decided to quit our jobs and do our own thing. The freedom to decide how we work and what we work with and how much time we want to dedicate to our customers is priceless.

Poonam Stecher Sharma: I wanted to work with people – that was always clear to me. I can’t really say where this wish comes from. I grew up in a very social family, which certainly shaped me. At the same time, I felt the need to create a place where the full depth of yoga and ayurveda can be experienced, and to support people sustainably on their path to greater balance and better health. My partner shared this vision – et voilà, the dream came true!

Christine Kaiser: It all began with a wish from my son: He really wanted a gym bag with a little fox on it. When we visited the fabric store together, I was totally hooked: After that, I couldn’t stop buying fabrics to create cushions, toiletry bags, bags, hats, clip coin purses and other things. Always one-offs. I taught myself the craft and gradually developed my own style. Turning my new passion into my own small business.

How do you know you’re doing the right thing?

Isabel Oelkers: When customers fall asleep totally relaxed during the treatment or leave our premises with a smile on their face, that’s a good sign. I know exactly why I love my work so much at the very latest when they happily report that their skin has visibly improved since the first treatment.

Poonam Stecher Sharma: Our studio is just a stone’s throw from Langstrasse and the Europaallee. Bankers, Googlers, stay-at-home parents and students attend classes here. They are often still caught up in everyday life when they come in. Breathing quickly and shallowly. But after a while, I see how they are suddenly breathing deeply and having their "Everything is fine" moment. That’s beautiful to watch. I also love seeing how people from all walks of life connect with each other here.

Christine Kaiser: I’m constantly thinking of new ideas but it’s not always easy to put them into practice. It often takes several attempts to get the product just as I had imagined it. It’s all the more beautiful when I finally hold the finished piece in my hands – and even more so when I can sense how much my customers love it. That’s the best confirmation for me.

What tips do you give to start-ups?

Jessica Häupl: Courage and trust in your own vision are crucial. Anyone starting a business should believe in their goal and not be discouraged by setbacks. At the same time, it is essential to document contractual agreements thoroughly – clarity protects against any misunderstandings. And last but not least: Your gut feeling is a valuable compass. Often, it sends you a warning before your conscious reasoning kicks in.

Poonam Stecher Sharma: Discover what you’re really passionate about. Listen to your gut instinct but still create a detailed business plan. Don’t just fill it with numbers but precisely describe what you want to offer – and think it through right to the end! Stay true to your idea, even if success doesn’t happen overnight. Work with passion but never forget: What you’re doing is to serve others. If it’s all about you, you won’t succeed.

Christine Kaiser: It’s great when you can do something with enthusiasm. For me, this also includes talking to people who inspire me. I hadn’t planned to be partially self-employed. But one door kept opening up after the next through my contacts. I took advantage of these opportunities and gave it a go to see where it might lead. It’s important to walk through the world with an open mind, to recognize opportunities as such and to take a chance. You’ll only find out if it works, if you give it go!
