Between flora and fauna
A summer oasis that needs to be found first: In the middle of the Botanical Gardens of the University of Bern, known as “Boga” for short, with a view over the River Aare, the crew of the “Strunk” event venue run a small café bar. Between concrete, deckchairs and palm trees, “Fleuri” offers a small menu with products from the Bern region seven days a week from morning to evening. The aperitif comes in small glasses accompanied by crispbread: carrot spread, goat's cheese or hummus. Chocolate cake, cinnamon-vanilla buns and crumble cake come from local micro-bakeries such as “Backbord” and “Underbara Bullar”.
New from the fall
From September, hot dogs will also be part of the lunch menu: “We're topping them with preserves such as pickled fennel or plum chutney,” says “Fleuri” boss Maruska Houdijk. There will also be a changing soup of the day. The drinks menu also covers all your needs for a short break from the noise of the city: espresso or a cold and frothy Doppio from the shaker (“Shakerato”), homemade iced tea, lemon pressé, calamansi lemonade or various beers and natural wines.
